How Gratitude Can Change Your Life

I believe in the power of gratitude.

I believe gratitude has the power to change our life circumstances no matter what they are. To some people this might seem a little “woo hoo,” and that’s fine. I’m not here to try and convince you otherwise.

But if you believe it or you want to believe it, here’s a more personal piece (a true story, a mini essay) about how gratitude changed my life in 2015 and why I’ve never stopped believing in it’s power and why I practice attracting what I want in life using love and gratitude regularly. After my story, I included some of my greatest tips to help you start a gratitude practice today.

A story about how Gratitude Changed my life:

I wrote this piece for school in 2017.

The Power Of Gratitude

On May 19, 2015, I bought a small turquoise notebook, and on the front shiny gold letters spelled out, “BE HAPPY.” Since then I have written one page a day about the things, people, places, and experiences I am grateful for.

I started my book of gratitude when I was feeling lost. From February to May 2015, I was not the positive person I know I am. I felt anxious, a little lost, and completely defeated.

I didn’t know if I was going to get into Creative Communications at Red River College. I already gave university a chance and decided it wasn’t for me. Even if I got into Creative Communications I didn’t know how I was going to afford it. I needed to find an additional summer job, but I didn’t want to work anywhere or do something I wasn’t passionate about. It was my dream to teach yoga Monday to Friday, but that’s not realistic, since yoga studios cut classes during the summertime. My car got keyed, I got a ticket for texting and driving, and my car was damaged from a hit and run in March that I still needed to get fixed. I had my heart broken around the same time all of this was going on, which didn’t help.

In May, I read this quote about gratitude from television writer and producer Rhonda Byrne, “Feel grateful with all your heart, gratitude is the greatest multiplier. Gratitude is a powerful way to shift your energy and bring more of what you want into your life.”

NOTE: I read this quote in the book - The Power. That book changed my life (sorry to sound dramatic, but it really did). In the Soul Squad Community, there will be an optional book club for people to take part in! This will be the first book we read as a group and I can't wait!

I filled my small turquoise notebook with thoughts and feelings about gratitude, even though it was hard to see the positive side of the challenges I was faced with.

By the end of June, every area of my life had multiplied. I started my own business, and it turned out to be a huge success. Since my business launched my network of friends multiplied, and so did the numbers in my bank account.

The number of emails I was getting per day from gyms and yoga studios increased because they wanted me to work for them.

Finally, I got a letter from Red River College stating I made it to the interview stage of the application process. I wrote in my turquoise notebook how grateful I was for that letter. I pinned it to my board of inspiration and wrote in my notebook how grateful I was for it every single day. A week after my interview I received my acceptance letter.

I believe in the power of gratitude. I believe gratitude has the power to change your circumstances, and that it is the greatest multiplier. Gratitude changed my attitude and multiplied every area of my life. I have 15 pages left in my small turquoise notebook, and a brand new one ready to go when it’s full.

Step by step, How to use love and gratitude to change your circumstances:

Step 1 - Go to Chapters

Step 2 - Buy magical turquoise notebook

Step 3 - Write about love and gratitude EVERY day

Step 4 - Everything you want in life will manifest. Do you want a puppy? Start practising gratitude people!

I'm kidding (but not really).

Here's what you seriously need to do:

Step 1 - Get a notebook or start using the notes on your phone if you prefer.

Step 2 - Write about things you're grateful for every single day. Like anything else in life, if you want to see and feel a difference and reap the benefits, consistency is key. Make gratitude a daily practice. Don’t just think about gratitude -  write about it! Writing helps to re-program your brain.

Step 3 - Watch your life change. Be aware of "coincidences." Look for signs and you'll see that gratitude truly does shift your energy and by shifting your energy you will attract more of what you want in life.

I won't lie to you, some days it will be hard. If you're having a tough day you might feel like there is nothing to be grateful for and it will be hard to write. Do it anyway, don't give up! I started my gratitude book because I felt like I had nothing to be grateful for. I was desperate to change my circumstances, so I took a leap and it worked. I have faith it will work for you too.

In the Soul Squad, the nine weeks are broken down into three sections. The second section is all about backbends, heart openers and attracting what you want in life through love and gratitude. To learn more about the Soul Squad and sign up before it's too late, click here.
