The Essence of Prayer
Prayer is a huge part of my life and always has been, but I didn’t always call it that.
What I now refer to as prayer, I once referred to as:
Listening to my intuition
Meditation
Practicing gratitude
Saying thank you
Channeling
Asking for signs
Communicating with the other side
Acknowledging and expressing gratitude when I receive signs
Referring to grounding statements or beliefs such as clarity over certainty and what’s meant for me will not pass me
Words spoken with intention
Sending messages to loved ones
There are countless ways to pray, and it all comes down to intention. If you have an aversion to the word prayer, you don’t need to use it. Maybe there’s another word or phrase—like setting intentions or expressing gratitude—that feels more aligned for you. If communicating with the other side doesn’t sit well with you, you can think of it as communicating with yourself.
Connection with Self and Spirit are one and the same. The magic that exists beyond us also lives within us. If you’re interested in my Reconnect to Self and Spirit mentorships, please email to book a free consultation. I’ll be accepting four clients for the Spring for three-month mentorships only.
Life is a Ceremony, and being present with it is a prayer.
I pray every day, and it has changed my life. It’s made me a more grateful person, and it’s allowed me to live with more lightness and ease. It helps me notice the magnificence in the mundane.
I pray when I snuggle my dog in the morning and think of how grateful I am for him.
I pray at the gym as I silently express gratitude for how I can move my body.
I pray when I drive, thanking Creator for keeping me safe and asking for protection as I set out on the road again.
I pray when I smile at the barista and thank them for making my coffee.
I pray when I sit upright in bed at night, take a few deep breaths, and focus my attention inward.
I pray when I spot signs—like angel numbers and rainbows in the sky—by acknowledging them and sharing them with whoever I’m with.
Everything I listed is a form of prayer because they are forms of connection and communication.
Whether it’s connection and communication with myself and my breath, with the barista as we smile at one another, or with Creator as I embody the essence of faith—prayer is simply a form of communication. Communication brings us into a state of connection. Ceremony brings us into a state of connection. Prayer is a Ceremony.
Prayer is the Ceremony we need when we lack faith.
Lately, I’ve noticed many of us are having our sense of faith tested—myself included. I’ve been asking Creator: Haven’t I passed this test? Didn’t we do this already? You told me to surrender. I did. I listened. I passed the test, didn’t I? Why are you testing me again?
I see this with many people in my life right now, too. But I don’t think it’s because we didn’t pass a previous test Creator gave us. I believe our sense of faith and trust can deepen and strengthen beyond what we thought possible. And so, we receive more tests.
Conversations with Creator:
When I asked Creator how I can embody the essence of faith when I am struggling, I received an answer: prayer.
When I asked Creator how I can help others strengthen their faith when they are struggling, I received an answer: help others connect with prayer.
Then I asked: How would you like me to help others connect with the essence of prayer?
Answer: Share the essence of prayer through written words. Let people know prayer is simply a form of communication and connection. Let people know they don’t need to use that word to connect with the essence of what prayer truly is. Communication and connection will help us strengthen our faith when we’re slipping into fear.
Then I asked: Is there anything else?
(Note: I find that question very helpful whenever I'm channeling. It came to me intuitively one time when a channeling session didn’t feel complete. Now, I ask it near the end before wrapping up to ensure I’m not missing anything. I invite you to use that question when you channel, too.)
Answer: Bring people together in community. Offer a Ceremony. Help guide people to share their prayers with Creator. Our prayers are stronger and amplified when we gather in community.
With love and gratitude,
Sam
